SEG Beijing Section 3^th quarter seminar was hold in China University of Petroleum, Beijing, on Oct 20^th 2008. During the meeting, Professor Gao Jinghuai from Xi’an Jiaotong University and Professor Wei Jianxin from China University of Petroleum were invited respectively to report on detection of phase space attributes and attenuation estimation, and experimental study of fissure scale effect on velocity dispersion. More than 100 geophysicists and students from BGP of CNPC, China University of Petroleum, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Explore and Development Institute of CNPC, China University of Geosciences, Xi’an Jiaotong University, and so on, attended the meeting, and conducted significant discussion on related hot points in exploration geophysics. At the end of the seminar, the members of the 8^th SEG Beijing Section executive committee were announced. Dr Zhao Bo was elected as the new chairman of the 8^th SEG Beijing Section executive committee. After the meeting, all geophysists and students attending the seminar visited the state key laboratory of petroleum resource and prospecting in China University of Petroleum, Beijing.
